Homeowner Installation Guarantees

HOMEOWNER INSTALLATION GUARANTEE & WARRANTY

At Trade Tech Windows & Doors, we are committed to maintaining high standards in the products we supply and the quality of our installation.

Our aim is to give homeowners confidence and reassurance that their new windows and doors are backed by clear product guarantees, professional installation and, where applicable, Assure Certification and a 6-Year Insurance-Backed Guarantee (IBG).

This guarantee applies where Trade Tech has contracted directly with the homeowner to supply and install the relevant windows, doors or associated products.

PVC-U & Aluminium Windows and Doors

Trade Tech guarantees fabricated PVC-U and aluminium window and door products against manufacturing defects for a period of 10 years.

Products are manufactured using established window and door systems and components and are designed to provide many years of service when correctly installed, operated and maintained.

The guarantee covers manufacturing defects affecting the reasonable operation or performance of the product.

Normal ageing, reasonable colour variation, minor surface changes and cosmetic characteristics that fall within recognised manufacturer or industry tolerances are not considered manufacturing defects.

Insulating Glass Units

Insulating glass units supplied as part of our windows and doors are guaranteed for 10 years against premature failure of the sealed unit resulting from a manufacturing defect.

This primarily includes failure of the perimeter seal resulting in condensation or misting between the panes of glass.

The glass guarantee does not cover:

  • Accidental breakage;
  • Scratches or physical damage occurring after installation;
  • Damage caused by impact or misuse;
  • Thermal fracture where this is not attributable to a manufacturing defect;
  • Damage resulting from building or structural movement; or
  • Minor visual imperfections falling within recognised glass industry standards and tolerances.

External or internal surface condensation caused by atmospheric conditions, ventilation, humidity or the thermal performance of modern glazing does not constitute failure of the sealed glass unit.

Window & Door Hardware

Hardware fitted to products supplied and installed by Trade Tech is guaranteed against manufacturing or operational failure for 1 year.

This includes applicable components such as handles, hinges, locking mechanisms and other fitted operating hardware.

The hardware guarantee does not cover failure or damage resulting from:

  • Misuse or excessive force;
  • Accidental or deliberate damage;
  • Failure to undertake reasonable maintenance;
  • Building movement or distortion;
  • Alterations carried out by another contractor;
  • Exposure to corrosive chemicals or substances; or
  • Coastal or marine environments, including exposure to salt spray, unless components specifically suitable for those conditions have been supplied.

Moving hardware should be kept clean and lubricated periodically to maintain correct operation.

Integral Blinds / Blinds Within Glass

Integral blind systems and blinds within glass are guaranteed for 1 year against manufacturing defects and operational failure under normal domestic use.

The guarantee does not cover damage resulting from misuse, excessive force, impact, accidental damage, modification or incorrect operation.

Our Installation

Where Trade Tech has contracted directly with you to carry out the installation, we are responsible for ensuring our installation work is carried out with reasonable care and skill and in accordance with applicable contractual and regulatory requirements.

Our installers will install your windows and doors using appropriate installation methods and recognised industry good practice.

If you believe there is a problem with our installation, please contact Trade Tech as soon as reasonably possible so that we have the opportunity to investigate and, where appropriate, rectify the issue.

Assure Certified Installation

Trade Tech Windows & Doors is an Assure Certified Installer.

Where applicable, qualifying replacement window and door installations undertaken by Trade Tech will be registered through the Assure Certification Competent Person Scheme.

This enables qualifying installations to be registered for Building Regulations compliance without the homeowner having to arrange a separate Building Control inspection for the work covered by the scheme.

Following successful registration, the homeowner will receive the relevant Assure Building Regulations Compliance Certificate.

Your Assure certificate is an important document and should be retained safely with the records for your property. It may be required when you sell or remortgage your home.

Assure 6-Year Insurance-Backed Guarantee

Where applicable and subject to the eligibility requirements, terms, conditions and exclusions of the relevant scheme, qualifying installations will also be provided with an Assure 6-Year Insurance-Backed Guarantee (IBG).

The Insurance-Backed Guarantee provides additional protection for the homeowner in qualifying circumstances if Trade Tech is unable to honour its obligations under the guarantee, subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable insurance policy.

The IBG is separate from your Trade Tech product guarantees.

The 6-year Insurance-Backed Guarantee does not reduce our longer product guarantees.

For example:

PVC-U windows & doors – 10 Years
Aluminium windows & doors – 10 Years
Insulating glass units – 10 Years
Assure Insurance-Backed Guarantee – 6 Years, where applicable

The exact protection provided by the IBG is determined by the applicable insurance policy, including its terms, conditions, eligibility requirements and exclusions.

Looking After Your New Windows & Doors

Modern windows and doors contain moving components and require reasonable maintenance to keep them operating correctly.

We recommend that homeowners:

  • Keep drainage channels and tracks clean and unobstructed;
  • Keep hinges, locks and moving components clean;
  • Lubricate appropriate moving hardware periodically;
  • Keep sliding and bifolding door tracks free from dirt and debris;
  • Avoid using excessive force when operating windows and doors;
  • Do not hang objects from handles, doors or opening sashes;
  • Report unusual operation before continued use causes further damage; and
  • Follow any specific maintenance instructions supplied by Trade Tech or the product manufacturer.

Properties located in coastal or other aggressive environments may require more frequent maintenance.

What Isn’t Covered?

Our guarantees do not cover problems resulting from circumstances unrelated to a manufacturing or installation defect, including:

  • Misuse, neglect or accidental damage;
  • Failure to carry out reasonable maintenance;
  • Fair wear and tear;
  • Alterations or modifications carried out by others;
  • Damage caused by another contractor or trade;
  • Building movement, settlement, subsidence or structural defects;
  • Defective lintels or other structural components outside the window or door installation;
  • Damage resulting from building works undertaken after our installation;
  • Exposure to abnormal chemicals or environmental conditions;
  • Fire, flood, storm or other circumstances outside our reasonable control;
  • Cosmetic characteristics falling within recognised manufacturer or industry tolerances; or
  • Damage caused by continued use of a product after an obvious fault has developed.

Nothing within these exclusions affects any rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded or restricted.

Making a Guarantee Claim

If you believe there is a problem with a product or installation supplied by Trade Tech, please contact us as soon as reasonably practicable after becoming aware of the issue.

To help us investigate, we may ask you to provide:

  • Your name and installation address;
  • Original order, contract or invoice details;
  • A description of the problem;
  • Photographs or video showing the issue; and
  • Reasonable access to inspect the product where required.

Please do not instruct another contractor to carry out remedial work where you expect Trade Tech to reimburse the cost without first giving us a reasonable opportunity to inspect and, where appropriate, rectify the problem.

What Happens if a Valid Claim Is Confirmed?

Where we confirm that a product, component or installation has failed because of a defect covered by the applicable Trade Tech guarantee, we will determine an appropriate remedy.

Depending upon the circumstances, this may include:

  • Adjustment;
  • Repair;
  • Replacement of the defective component; or
  • Replacement of the affected product where reasonably necessary.

Where an identical product, component, colour or finish is no longer reasonably available, we may offer an equivalent or reasonably comparable alternative.

Documents You Should Keep

We strongly recommend keeping the documentation relating to your installation safely with your property records.

Where applicable, this should include:

  • Trade Tech contract or order confirmation
  • Trade Tech final invoice
  • Trade Tech Guarantee & Warranty information
  • Assure Building Regulations Compliance Certificate
  • Assure 6-Year Insurance-Backed Guarantee documentation

These documents may be useful when making a future guarantee claim and may also be requested when your property is sold or remortgaged.

Your Statutory Rights

Our guarantees are provided in addition to your statutory consumer rights.

Nothing contained within this guarantee excludes, restricts or replaces any rights or remedies available to you under applicable UK consumer law.

Nothing within this guarantee excludes or restricts Trade Tech’s liability where it would be unlawful to do so.

Where there is any conflict between this commercial guarantee and rights available to you under applicable consumer legislation, your statutory rights will take precedence.

Terms & Conditions

These guarantees should be read alongside the Trade Tech Terms & Conditions applicable to your contract.

Assure Certification and the Assure Insurance-Backed Guarantee are subject to the separate requirements, terms, conditions and exclusions of the applicable schemes and insurance policy.
